A disappointing afternoon last Sunday at JOE BAKER FIELD against the travelling Burdekin teams.  Only 1 from 3.

UNDER 18s Western Lions – Saints: Lost 24-25.  The young under 18s just cant win a second half and this has been their downfall all year. A 24-12 half time lead was gradually whittled away by the visitors as crucial errors cost the boys in the second half, particularly a failure to secure opposition kicks. When Burdekin got a field goal with 3 minutes left, the Western Lions – Saints still gave themselves a chance at the other end with a scrum only 10 meteres out with less than 30 seconds on the clock, but they elected to spread left to secure a victory rather than opt for their own field goal to secure a draw. Tristan Nelliman-Adams was excellent throughout the match with his deft passing resulting on two of the teams tries and he backed that up with some brusing hits in defence. For large parts of the match they were the better team, however, they were well and truly un-done by the blistering pace of the Budrekin winger, Keirin Knox, who ran in three tries by getting outside the defence. BOY! He was quick! Coach Moses Nelliman may do well to finish first and start second in order to arrest their second half fades.

Reggies: Won 36-20. The Reggies are on a role right now and started strongly and blitzed their opponents in the first half and led 32-6.  The first half was punctuated with some football power and some absolutely comical events. Tries to Nathan Seluli, Moses Nelliman-Adams, Semi Vaituliao, and the evergreen Doigy, were a result of strength and determination and left the Burdekin defence in tatters. Half way through the first half the referee stopped the match and refused to allow it to continue until an abusive visiting spectator was evicted from the grounds.  The spectator refused to leave until Herman stood up from his chair and when he saw Herman’s floral pants, he left voluntarily. Then on the stroke of half time, there was an altercation after Seluli converted a Uni try and he and a Burdekin player stood toe to toe.  Seluli just ducked and weaved like a young Muhamad Ali while the burdekin player threw punch after punch which never connected and served only to almost dislocate his own shoulder. Classic Reggie Football. The second half was full of stoppages and never really flowed and although the Burdekin attempted a come back it never really got out of second gear.

A Grade: Lost 20-35.  Disjointed was the best way to describe the A Graders. With some key personnel missing they never really got into the game in any significant fashion and despite a couple of tries in the first half to Jordan Remfrey keeping them in the game at 10-14, the second half was dominated by the Burdekin who were well deserved winners.  Hayden Crowley also bagged a double in the second half and was a willing worker all afternoon.

This weekend we host NORTHS at JOE BAKER FIELD on Saturday afternoon. Games commence at 2pm and A Grade at 5pm.
