The Mighty SAINTS played Norths last Friday night and came away with two solid wins.

The UNDER 20s are still with some work to do after going down 50-20.  The boys were willing but still lacking some discipline and concentration on some structure.

The REGGIES then balanced the ledger with a tough 26-12 victory, despite playing a man down for 10 minutes in the second half. Half Back, Zac Anderson and hooker, Shane Hackett revelled behind a dominant forward pack, led by the Tronc brothers, Kenny Williams and skipper, Adrian Doig  …  that’s right folks, Doigy is still playing after coming out of retirement for a record tenth time. He expects to get the Age pension before he finally stops playing.

The forwards controlled the middle third of the park (no longer do forwards bludge on the blind side) and this allowed the outside backs to capitalise with our honorary PNG Hunters getting doubles.

A Grade scored first and then never relinquished the lead, eventually winning 37-26. Once again fullback, Scott Evans, was outstanding with great defensive reads and backed up with a brace of tries. One of them, an 80m effort from a kick return early in the second half.  Centre Sean ‘Jaw’ Evans, who has also sneaked into ‘Club Stalwart’ status, also picked up a double.

Half back, Kyle Laybutt pressed for a Cowboys 20s call up with a superb kicking game that had the Norths fullback ‘sphincter slapping’. Some of his spiral bombs couldnt be seen by the naked eye and ate minutes off the clock as everyone waited for them to descend.

Great defence in the end pressured Norths into numerous turnovers, which enabled the SAINTS to hang on for the win.

This Weekend:   FUGS Home Game v Charters Towers at JOE BAKER FIELD.  SATURDAY 16th May.  We’re also hosting the Under 18s game so first kick of is 12.45pm and A Grade at 5pm.
