We’re not quite six months into our 2014 FUGS Membership Year and what have we achieved? SOOOOOO Much that I cant believe we’ve found the time to do our real work and kept our sock draws tidy. Here’s what ALL members can be proud of:
- $6,000 has already been given to the JCU Rugby League Club – The MIGHTY SAINTS, and the reason we exist.
- $4,500 is further budgeted for the connection of electricity to the guard house at Joe Baker Field, in order to provide a valuable storage facility for the Club. (The money is in the bank and just waiting for the work to be done)
- $1,000 in other sponsorships and donations. These are sponsorships to related organisations which we felt would benefit the FUGS and promote our ‘brand’.
- $440 is further budgeted for additional external sponsorships and advertising that will further enhance our reputation as strong promoters of Rugby League and great community contributors.
- The Cure Starts Now is our nominated official charity and apart from direct donations we have made, we have also volunteered to assist in some of their fund raising events and additionally, one of our small sponsorships (above) has resulted in a wonderful donation of $800 to this very worthy charity
We can ALL be proud of what we’ve done so far, and, we don’t just give to others, we also give to our Members.
Remember that June membership promotion for the commemorative jersey for the 100th Anniversary of the TDRL? You will recall that it was won by Bob Edwards. “Uncle Bob” is a proud FUG and has been since its inception. He’s not a ‘local’ FUG but still sees the benefit of being a member of this worthwhile association. Bob lives ‘up the road’ a bit in Innisfail and often makes the trek down the Bruce highway and stops occasionally to take photos inside the pot holes with all the other tourists. He drops in to raffles, has a beer, recites a limerick and backs horses each way that run third in races with only seven runners. The FUGS value our members so much that we sent our secretary, Ken Veness, up to Innisfail to delivery the jersey personally.
And don’t forget our current promotion for the TDRL’s Rod Ward Medal night which also doubles as their official 100th Anniversary Gala, to be held in the Jupiters Hotel Ballroom on Friday 5th September. TDRL Flyer All financial FUGS members have until Wednesday 20th August to contact us and we will rebate 50% of the cost of tickets for you AND your partner. That’s free food and drinks for both of you for only $100. That’s great value.
The FUGS …. Just keep on giving.
