G’day FUGS,
Unfortunately, I am the bearer of BAD news. The decision has been taken that UNI RUGBY LEAGUE will not be participating in the upcoming 2018 TDRL Season, which was to commence 7th April.
I know that I had previously mentioned that strong recruiting appeared to offer positive prospects for this year, however, circumstances have caused those hopes to be dashed.
Certain decisions by key, senior signings to either take no further part in the 2018 season, or, to back down on their earlier commitments to the Club has resulted in a snow balling effect which has left the CLUB critically short on numbers.
I can assure you that the CLUB committee exhausted all avenues to try and make an eleventh hour attempt to bolster playing stocks, however, the reality was that it was only likely to be a short term, band aid measure. A week to week hope to field teams was not an option, as any forfeits would result in fines and damage to our reputation and history.
The decision to take no part in the 2018 TDRL season was not taken lightly and was made in consultation with Life Members, Past Presidents, Players and of course, the FUGS.
Having all experienced the pressure and work load associated with running a Rugby League Club, we supported the current CLUB Committee in their decision. In fact we thanked them for their efforts. Not only over the last 6 months, but, in most cases for the last 6 years.
The Club has NOT walked away completely from the TDRL and has vowed to maintain our affiliation, and investigate options for 2019 and beyond. No promises.
Of course, we thank you FUGS members for your loyal support, and assure you ….
The FUGS will continue!
We have no intention of stopping the FUGS concept as it still provides a link to the CLUB’s history and we will continue to support the CLUB through this transition process. More importantly, we will continue our fund raising efforts in support of the charities we are associated with, particularly the CURE STARTS NOW.
Nevertheless, we understand that some of you may have paid Membership Fees for the 2018 season, on the basis that it was to support the CLUB. We will still be providing financial assistance to the CLUB during this transition, however, we will totally understand if you request a refund of your membership fees. (If you wish to have your membership fees refunded, please email saint@fugs-uni.com and provided your bank account details for deposit to your account)
This will be further discussed at out next monthly FUGS meeting on the 7th April and further information will be provided after that.
