CLUB PULLS OUT OF 2018 TDRL SEASON
March 23rd, 2018
G’day FUGS, Unfortunately, I am the bearer of BAD news. The decision has been taken that UNI RUGBY LEAGUE will not be participating in the upcoming 2018 TDRL Season, which was to commence 7th April. I know that I had previously mentioned that strong recruiting appeared to offer positive prospects for this year, however, circumstances have caused those hopes to be dashed. Certain decisions by k[...]
MAUREEN CALLS LAST DRINKS
February 5th, 2017
If it’s one thing that the FUGS appreciate, it’s longevity. The FUGS have been selling raffle tickets since 2009, when we first started raising funds for the 50th Anniversary Reunion in 2011. There’s been a few constants throughout that long and strong association with TOMS TAVERN: The regular ‘bar flies’ that sit at end of the Public Bar and punt on the horses, buy raffles tickets and comp[...]

The Financial Statements reported a satisfactory level of cash reserves in line with our objectives 2. We have once again committed significant financial assistance to the CLUB in 2017 3. 2017 Membership income will once again be focussed on ensuring the financial stability of t[...]
Vale GLORIA ACE - Life Member
May 25th, 2016
It is with great sadness that we announce the news that GLORIA ACE passed away on Monday. Together with her husband, Neil, they were both LIFE MEMBERS of the Club, and, GLORIA our only female Life Member. Neil joined the Club in 1979 and it didn’t take him long to throw himself head long into major roles on the committee including a significant stint as president in the years where our 18s a[...]
SAINT to play for Australia
October 15th, 2015
The FUGS extend their hearty congratulations to A Grade Captain, JAKE McMANUS, who was selected for the Australian Universities side to tour New Zealand. Jake has been our A Grade Captain for the past two seasons and no doubt his consistently high work rate was one of the main reasons for his selection. Jake heads off on Friday to the land of the long white cloud for a total of three matches[...]
DID IT FOR DOIGY
September 15th, 2015
The FUGS woke up early on Sunday morning and noted that the sky was blue and the sun was golden. Hang On! That couldn’t just be a coincidence. It had to be an omen! At 11.03am, Tav, Ken & Macca sipped lovingly on their first beers at the Longboard Bar on the strand. They barely had time to go “aaaahhhh” when Cookie and the product of his loins (Travis) arrived and joined in. Then F[...]
FUGS - NRL Tipping - Final Results
September 8th, 2015
Done and dusted for another year tipsters. CONGRATULATIONS to …. SAINT11. Despite a nervous finish with only 3 points in round 26, SAINT 11 hung on to outlast the LOWLAND WONDERER by 1 point. They collect $150 and $50 respectively for first and second and prove that you don’t need to know anything about football to win a tipping competition. Finishing fast but just out of the money was RT[...]
TOUR TO TRIUMPH - Week 2
September 7th, 2015
The Uni Saints REGGIES were out to ambush the Burdekin who finished 2nd on the ladder and FUGS President, TAV, got right into the theme wearing his Anzac Day camouflage jersey and cap, which made him very hard to spot. We think he even got into the ground without paying. On the line was a spot in the Grand Final against HerbertRiver. It didn’t take long for UNI to assert some dominance and afte[...]
TOUR TO TRIUMPH - Week 1
September 1st, 2015
It really is a beautiful time of year for TDRL semi-finals and the SAINT was noticed sun-baking on Castle Hill and overlooking the Reggies warm up for the knock out Semi-Final against brothers. Whatever they did in the warm up, really worked. Right from the outset you could see that the REGGIES had brought their A Game. Hard hitting defence and slick back line play and it was one of those [...]
ANOTHER SAINT DEPARTS
August 14th, 2015
The FUGS regret to inform of the passing of KEITH SHIELS, after a long battle with cancer. Keith died on Tuesday May 5 and the private funeral was held on Friday 15 May in Bowen. Keith was one of the Uni greats during our golden era of the early 70s. With the Club jam packed with talent, they were the dominant force in the early 70s. With Keith Shiels leading the way The Uni Saints won premie[...]
