Question:- How do you stop a Prop?

Answer:-  Put him up against a Winger.

Mid 80s prop, Jay Thomson has lived and worked in England for a couple of decades now and still has the ocassional run every Saturday, in a thirds competition … just to work up a thirst. Like he needs the excuse?

A couple of weeks ago he had an unfortunate encounter in the ruck and an opposition player fell across his right ankle. Being the friendly type, Jay struck up a conversation that went something like this:

Jay: “Arghh! My bloody ankle! What did you fricken do that for?”

Other Bloke: “Um sorry! I fell over my feet,”

Jay: “I’ll bet you are a  fricken winger!:

Other Bloke: “Yeh, I am. Why?”

And so it was that this ex-Uni prop who once had a 5 minute ‘one on one’ with Obe Geia during a game that would have put ‘The Thriller in Manilla’ or ‘The Rumble in the Jungle’ to shame, was undone by a winger.

So you see, wingers dont just score trys and drop balls (and not necessarily in that order) but, they can also be the prop’s ‘achilles heal’.
