The Saints took on the Miners prior to the Blackhawks v Norths Devils on Saturday at Jack Manski Oval!
The 20s weren’t short on effort and once again put in a spirited performance with 12 players before going down to the Miners 62-20. This age group has struggled for numbers all year and were cruelled by work commitments at the V8s that were a priority for a couple of our young Saints! The 11am start time didn’t help either but hopefully the boys can bounce back and finish the year strong!
The Reserve Grade were unrelenting defeating Charter Towers 52-10 and only conceding tries late in the game when they eased off the pedal! This puts our reserve grade in 4th position on a congested ladder and we’ll need to keep winning to stay there! The Reggies were simply dominant from the warm-up till the final whistle of the Blackhawks game where a few of them ended up in the canteen with some rusty old FUGS in Russ Cook and Steve Crowley, who wouldnt be out of place in any front row.
The A-grade have played well in beaten games and this was one occasion where everything clicked and they were never going to lose after grabbing an early lead. The Saints led at the break and held-off a determined Miners comeback to finish 24-16 winners! Outstanding performances from Captain Jake McManus and barnstorming front rowers Ricky Bourke and Jack Kelliher ensured go-forward in the middle and calm heads to close out the game! Also special mentions to Brad Cross, Sione Veukiso and Matt Kenworthy for backing up for A-grade after playing a full game for the 20s.
