The Mighty Saints will be holding their trophy presentation night this Saturday, 12th, at the Allen Hotel. It will be a night to celebrate another successful year for the Club. Even though there is no premiership to add to our collection, having all three teams in the finals is still a great achievement. An achievement the Club has now attained in three consecutive seasons.
There can be no doubt that the Club’s susccess over recent years can be attributed in no small part to our partnership with the TDRL Junior Club, Western Lions. The memorandum of understanding that is in place between the two clubs, sees the Under 19s team play under the banner of WESTERN LIONS SAINTS. That team won the TDRL premiership as the Under 18 Team in 2011, made the grand final in 2012 and the finals again in 2013. Many of the Saints Reggies and A Grade teams now comprise of Western Lions juniors that have come through the ranks.
In 2013, to say that the Western Lions juniors had a good year, is a bit like saying Usain Bolt runs faster than average.
They kicked off the year by winning the Under 13 Nate Myles Cup in April, and not to be out done the Under 12s won the Jason Hetherington Cup in July. The Under 9s reckoned they were as good as the bigger boys and so they won the Paul Bowman Challenge. But wait, there’s more …
The TDRL junior competition is still made up of the traditional powerhouse clubs of Brothers and Centrals and not to mention the strong district clubs from Herbert River and the Burdekin. The Lions rose to that challenge and were minor premiers in Under 12s, 13s and 15s. But wait, there’s more …
No less than five teams made the Grand Final. But wait, there’s more …
Four premierships. That’s right, FOUR. Under 10s, 12s, 13s & 15s. But wait. No , there cant be more, surely?
2013 CLUB CHAMPIONS!!!!
